It has been over 10 years since the first edition of White Pass Backcountry Skiing was published. Time has flown, and while the mountains remain unchanged, the landscape has evolved. In some areas, vegetation has significantly altered access routes, making them either easier or more challenging.

In this new edition, I have updated and expanded the guide to ensure it remains relevant and useful to skiers. I have added more routes.

NEW EDITION 2025

It has been over 10 years since the first edition of White Pass Backcountry Skiing was published. Time has flown, and while the mountains remain unchanged, the landscape has evolved. In some areas, vegetation has significantly altered access routes, making them either easier or more challenging.

In this new edition, I have updated and expanded the guide to ensure it remains relevant and useful to skiers. I have added more routes.

I did my best to share the best insights gained from my hard-earned knowledge exploring the backcountry with a keen eye and a pair of skis. With over 40 years of experience—both professionally and as a passionate hobbyist—I have compiled invaluable information on everything from terrain, skill level, parking, avalanche safety, and more.

This guidebook is your key to exploring the best ski terrain in White Pass, a breathtaking region between Yukon and Alaska. Whether you are new to backcountry skiing or an experienced adventurer, this guide offers essential information for planning your ski trips. It covers a portion of the Coast Mountain range between Carcross and Skagway, accessible via the South Klondike Highway, providing:

  • 75 ski routes ranging from beginner to expert levels.
  • Detailed route descriptions with clear directions and terrain photos.
  • Information on terrain, skill levels, parking, avalanche safety, park permits, and more.

This book has been developed without any government funding or assistance. I am deeply grateful to my longtime partners and advertisers whose support has helped keep production costs as low as possible.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has encouraged and supported me in publishing this book.

Also available in French: la version précédente est aussi toujours disponible en français ici.

I acknowledge that the areas currently described in this book are situated on the traditional territory of the Carcross / Tagish First Nation and Skagway Traditional Council.
